Mōhala Mai Tai

A traditional Trader Vic’s 1944 Mai Tai featuring Mōhala Expressions Kukui Nut Orgeat instead of the traditional variety made from almonds.

How to make a Mōhala Mai Tai:

Step 1: Gather your ingredients. You will need:

  • Rum: any rum will work, but I personally prefer my Mai Tai’s with an unaged rum for the base, such as Kōloa White or Kuleana Huihui.

  • Dry Orange Curaçao: I recommend Pierre Ferrand.

  • Lime Juice

  • Mōhala Expressions Kukui Nut Orgeat.

  • (Optional): I personally like to add a dark rum float on my Mai Tai’s, and my current favorite is Plantation Rum’s O.F.T.D.

Step 2: Build Your Cocktail

  • Combine 1.5oz of rum, .75oz of lime juice, .5oz of dry orange curaçao, and .5oz of Mōhala Expressions Kukui Nut Orgeat.

  • Shake combined ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour into a glass, top with 1oz of dark rum (optional), and garnish with a dehydrated lime wedge.

Step 3: Enjoy!
